Peter Jahrling and Tom Geisbert
Peter Jahrling is a civilian virologist that assisted USAMRIID in the Reston outbreak. Dan Dalgard called on him to help out because of his extensive knowledge of hot viruses. During his research efforts, he and coworker Ton Geisbert sniff a test tube containing Ebola. Fortunately, it was Ebola Reston, only harmful to primates. He now teaches about emerging viral pathogens around the United States.

Tom Geisbert is an intern at USAMRIID; he operates the facility's electron microscope. During the Reston outbreak, he examined infected monkey cells and is the first to identify signs of a filovirus. Once during an examination, he and Peter Jahrling sniffed a test tube that contained Ebola. It turns out to be Ebola Reston, a strain of Ebola that is not harmful to humans. He now works at the Department of Microbiology and Immunology.
